We're Expecting
The Utley family is so excited to announce that there will be an addition to our family. It's been a long wait full of heartfelt prayers but we are so grateful for the added love that is going to be apart of our family.
We'd like to introduce to you REMY soon to be mother of 4-18 hamster puppies.

Since the tragic death of Roudy, Sammy has been asking, praying, and begging to return to Santa's workshop to buy a new hamster. Last night we finally did it. Brett told us to get a long hair baby hamster. The pet store didn't have any to fit that description so instead we bought this adorable orange creamcicle short hair hamster who is going to drop a litter of pups any day. Isn't that exciting. Now we will be able to have a reply stock of hamsters in our own home. All for the price of ONE!

The Festival is Over and Christmas has begun
Happy Holidays everyone! I hope you enjoyed all my posts about the Festival of trees, because I sure enjoyed being apart of the fun. Now that the Festival is over it's time for me to focus more on family. That's just what I did this weekend. First on Friday, I got in an accident. Yes I rear ended a Dodge Stratus stopped the red light heading East on 4100 South at the corner of 6000 West. Gratefully all passengers involved were not hurt. I wish I could say the same about the Stratus and my Durango. (no I wasn't eating, talking on the phone, texting, or even thinking about Twilight) I was looking at the bumper sticker of two female signs decorated in rainbows on the Stratus. The light turned green, I went GO, the Stratus didn't. Samantha summed it all up when my mother came and picked her up at the scene of the crash "It's okay Nana we're not hurt we just crashed" 
Now I'm driving around in a rental Kia minivan much to the chagrin of Brett's manhood. The Durango is in the shop and should be as good as new next week. Thank goodness for a wonderful Auto Insurance Company. Saturday, Sammy and I enjoyed Breakfast at the Rogers with Santa Claus. This is a wonderful tradition my Aunt always hosts. My entire extended family arrives at her house at this horrible hour on a Saturday Morning...8am. We enjoy a delightful breakfast of scrambled eggs and ham, hashbrowns, muffins, and your choice of orange juice or chocolate milk. Lucky for me, my dad remembered to pack the Pepsi for my particular morning juice of choice. After Breakfast we clean up and make room for a special guest. Santa arrives to read us a Christmas story, ask each of the kids for their Christmas wish list, then he poses for family pictures. After Santa has spread his cheer the cousins gear up for the Cousin gift exchange. This year Samantha gave to Kaetlyn, she's fifteen and she asked Santa for anyhthing Twilight related. Well Merry Christmas to Kaetlyn who received a Twilight Movie Calendar and also the Illustrated Twilight Movie Companion from Sammy. Samantha received a "Pretty Pretty Princess Cinderella" board game from my cousin Cayde. Samantha loves to play pretty pretty princess whenever she goes to Cayde's house, and he's such a good sport to play with her. It takes a real man of 16 to wear a crown, earings, necklace, and a bracelet with his five year old second cousin. Sunday I came down with a terrible cough, chest congestion, and sore throat. Sammy too was suffering from the same elements. Brett stayed home from church to help nurse his girls. We started feeling better that evening, or else stir crazy from staying home all day so we put up our Christmas decorations as a family. 
Family isn't it about time. Now the week is in full swing again, we are back at work, Sammy is back at school and doing well in her class. She's even reading on a first grade level. Smart kids are a blessing and a curse. She's absorbing every morsel of knowledge she can, however the task that is especially difficult for her parents is keeping up with her.Thursday, December 4, 2008

Festival of Trees
I've been a little busy this past month, what with the Twilight Movie being released, a trip up to Boise for work, and Thanksgiving, I haven't had a lot of time to blog about our family. Probably because I haven't seen much of my family this past month.
All because I got a crazy idea this past summer that my group the SLTA should decorate a tree for the Festival of Trees. Unfortunately for me, my group hardly ever says NO to my crazy antics, fortunately for the Festival my friends jumped on the bandwagon and helped me create a pretty amazing tree.
I am surrounded by the most amazing and talent women I know. I simply say "I have a vision of a decorated Twilight Themed tree for the Festival" and they all make that vision come true. Committees were formed to decorate the tree, put presents under the tree, and find financing through various donations. And the final product is simply amazing. So amazing in fact that the Publicity department of the Festival asked us to be apart of three different news productions. Kjzz 14's Home Team, Park City TV, and KSL Eyewitness News at 4pm. Our tree was even highlighted in the Deseret News Wednesday December 3, 2008.

The Twilight Movie Sneak Peak
Yes I've seen it. Surprise! I'm sure you're not, you're probably not even surprised I've seen it 3 times and it's only been out for a day.
Actually I first got to see it on Tuesday when Jordan Commons had a Pre-view showing and I was one of the lucky few able to attend. No I didn't get any kind of special deal. Having a husband who works for a Television Station didn't give me any perks this time. I stood in a line for two hours last Saturday at the Furniture Box in State Street. My friend Jamie and I arrived at the store at 8am and we were the forth and fifth people in line. It's a good thing too because the store only had 20 passes to give away. (thanks go out to my co-worker for giving me the heads up about the tickets in the first place, she's the one who saw the ad in the newspaper and called me).
These passes however were not guaranteed tickets. Jamie and I still had to go stand in line on Tuesday at Jordan commons to exchange our passes for tickets. I'm so glad my husband called me at work and scared me to death by informing me KSL news radio just reported over 600 people were standing in line to see the show that night. I had to see for myself if I had any chance to get a ticket. I love how the news over reports stuff because there were only 20 people in line when I got there at 1pm. The people in the front of the line had been there since 11am. (interesting tidbit here, the first people in line on Tuesday were the same people in line on Saturday).
While standing in line for three hours I met a mother whose daughter had written an essay for the Barnes & Noble passes giveaway (can you believe going to all that trouble to write an essay and NOT be Guaranteed a ticket?). I also met a few friends from previous Twilight parties. These ladies were at the I Love Edward party in Provo Feb 2007 and also at the I Love Jacob Black Party in Phoenix back in May 2007. What a small world that I would see them again standing in line trying to get tickets to the previewing as well. I shouldn't be surprised avid Twilight fans tend to follow each other around to the various events.
Can I just say I made a pretty big impression on Reagan Leadbetter, she a host on abc4's Good Things Utah, and channel 4 didn't hook her up with any perks either. Once I realized who she was, I made my usual nuisance of myself and asked her if she remembered me from the show when Stephenie Meyer was a guest back in May. Wouldn't you know it she did remember me as one of the "#1 fans" interviewed by Angie. Reagan is a huge Twilight fan and it was so much fun to talk all about my Twilight fandom experiences with her. When you spend three hours waiting in line you have lots of time to chit chat and become friends. I got to brag about all the parties I've been to. Jamie and I took turns telling her all about our trip to Forks. Reagan was pretty impressed with the slue of information we had at our disposal. When it was time to finally get our tickets she handed me hers and her friend Nicea's (also a host on GTU) stack of passes because she wanted to make sure we all sat together.
Jamie's sister was also with us and thanks to her I was able to get an extra ticket so Brett could come and see the movie too. (Thanks Dad for babysitting on such short notice).
Granted the tickets we were able to get were not the best. Brett and I sat on row 3 from the front on the far right hand side. The GTU girls got the row in front of us. Angie (yet another host on GTU) sat directly in front of us because Reagan and Nicea took the center seats of row 2. Still really crappy seats to have to watch an action packed show with a Crick in your necks.
Now I have to admit I did take my Twilight Barbies with me to the movie. You never know when having props will win you a prize. At least I made the security officers day when he had to search my bag. Did you know when you get to see movies before the general public security checks your bags and makes you take your cell phone and camera to your car. Well now you do. I didn't win a prize for being a Jacob fan with a furry Jacob Barbie Doll. T-shirts were thrown but not to me. I did however impress Angie from GTU because she's a Jacob fan too. In fact all the Barbies ended up being passed around the GTU row for everyone to see. My motto, if you are going to make an impression, make it lasting. Here's snippit of Good Things Utah the next morning. I just had to hear Reagan's, Nicea's, and Angie's reactions.
Oh yea, the movie, do you want me to review that? It was good and it was bad, I'm not sure how much of the bad was because I was so close to the screen. It was good because the essence of Twilight remained true in the film, and there were tons of book references just for the fans sot that was fun to see. But the experiences before the show are all apart of the actual movie experience so I can honestly say IT WAS ALL WORTH IT. Now go see the movie for yourself.

Living with a Kindergartner
What an amazing adventure it is having your child attend Kindergarten. Kids learn the darndest things at school and from their friends. Sammy wanted to observe what her eyes look like so she asked me to take a picture of her doing this: 
She also has been living up the last few days of summer in her backyard pool.
